Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has announced that real estate developers and firms must install additional power generators on projects of touristic, commercial, and cultural value.

The move comes to ensure the seamless uninterrupted power supply in these developments, according to a statement on Sheikh Mohammed’s official website.

The Ruler’s was made during his visit to Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA) headquarters, where he was briefed about a recent power outage in Dubai Mall.

Sheikh Mohammed was accompanied by Dubai Crown Prince HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Deputy Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

The power outage at Dubai Mall on 24 April, 2017, was caused by the transfer of high-voltage cables from a Dubai Mall substation, based on a request placed by owner, Emaar.

DEWA and Emaar “had previously agreed to transfer the cables”, and the outage occurred during the transfer after “one line went out of service”.

State agency Dubai Media Office tweeted at 9.17pm that power had been restored at the mall.
