Terex Cranes has launched an upgrade to its Boom Booster kit for the Demag CC 3800-1 lattice boom crawler crane that increases the maximum system length to 183m and increases lift capacities by up to 30%.
The Boom Booster kit for Demag CC 3800-1 crawler cranes can now incorporate up to nine structural 12m sections, including two adapters, for a total kit length of up to 108m.
The kit’s new configurations and lengths are the results of the removal of lighter boom sections close to the head section and addition of 3.5m-wide Boom Booster sections right after the foot section.
In order to get the long boom configurations off the ground, the Superlift mast length of the kit has also been extending to 42m, through the additional of a 2.5m section.
The improved performance of the CC 3800-1 crawler crane with the Boom Booster kit now makes it an excellent choice for heavy lifting in high reach applications such as wind turbine erections, power plant installations, petrochemical work, and general construction and infrastructure lifts.
Notably, Dammam-based heavy haulage and heavy lift contractor Gulf Haulage Heavy Lift Company (GHHL) recently erected the very first commercial wind turbine in Saudi Arabia using a Liebherr LR 1750 lattice boom crawler crane.
In addition, the upgraded Terex Boom Booster kit also comes with the Demag fall protection system as standard, and there is an optional Superlift Split Tray and an optional Flex Frame available.
When both systems work together the amount of time required for re-arranging counterweights between erection of the crane and working with the crane drops substantially.
This reduces working hours for personnel and eliminates the need for an assist crane for re-stacking.
The optional Flex Frame solution also allows for the flexible setting of the Superlift counterweight across a range of radii lengths, from 13m to 21m, with the full counterweight on the tray.
The kit is available with all new crane purchases and can easily be retrofitted on existing Terex Superlift 3800 and Demag CC 3800-1 models.
The Terex upgrade mirror the advances made by Liebherr with its SX boom system for the 750t LR 1750/2 and LG 1750 lattice boom cranes to allow them to erect wind turbines beyond the normal limits of their weight class.
