Wirtgen is making the process concrete curing even easier and smoother with the introduction of its latest texture curing machine, the TCM 180, which deploys a modular design for working widths between 4m and 18m and an intuitive user interface.
Self-propelled curing units, such as the TCM 180, ensure the success of professionally cured concrete pavements by following in the wake of slipform concrete pavers and applying a broom unit mounted at the front of the machine to the surface of the concrete to texture it.
The texturing process is required to obtain the desired amount of skid resistance, and it is imperative that this process be carried out soon after the surface has been laid – before the concrete becomes non-plastic – as any drying out could cause tension and lead to cracking.
Finally, Wirtgen’s self-propelled curing units use a spraying system to apply a dispersion to the fresh concrete surfacing to prevent it drying out prematurely. It can also optionally be equipped to deploy a protective plastic film, deployed in reverse, to further protect the concrete.
In terms of its other specification, the TCM 180 specifically has an eco-friendly engine technology that complies with Tier 3 or Euro Stage IIIA emissions standards, and it can also be equipped with an additional diesel particulate filter.
The operator’s console meanwhile has a modern and clear arrangement and features a number of service and control functions to optimise the work process.
With the new operating concept, the curing unit can now be operated intuitively, in just the same wat as the Wirtgen SP 90 and SP 60 series slipform pavers.
Wirtgen has also enlarged its range of different surface textures to cater to the diverse requirements of its customers around the world. In the Middle East, where drying out is a particular issue, the TCM 180’s automated processes are particularly useful.
In addition to the established functions of transverse brooming and spraying, longitudinal brooming and spraying – and even the application of a diagonal finish – will be possible in future.
