Swisslog, a supplier of robot-based and data-driven intralogistics solutions, will be showcasing a fully automated warehousing solution via a Virtual Reality 3D simulation at the upcoming Materials Handling Middle East exhibition in Dubai.

Armed with HTC Vive Goggles, intralogistics managers attending the show will be able to use the simulation to learn how robotics technology and Industry 4.0 data systems work together in a fully automated warehouse to optimise the flow of goods.

“Virtual Reality 3D warehouse animation will become a real service for customers in the future, and there are different ideas within Swisslog on how it can be deployed in the intralogistics world,” said Daniel Hauser, MD for the Middle East at Swisslog Warehouse & Distribution Solutions.

“It can be used in sales to show buyers what their future systems would look like up and running on site, and it can be used to simulate systems to determine the optimal material flow or to observe performance during projected peak times.”

In the future, virtual reality could even be used as a means of remotely viewing and tracking live operations at logistics facilities across the world, or play back historical data to check for errors.

Swisslog will also introduce its AutoPiQ solution, a robot based automated picking solution for small items – ideal for use in spare parts logistics, as well as in e-commerce and pharmaceuticals sectors.

The exhibition will also be attended by other warehousing automation specialists, including Daifuku, the world’s largest materials handling systems supplier, Kardex, SSI Schaefer and GreyOrange.

Daifuku also plans to use virtual reality to visualise its automated systems, noted Andrey Kras, international business development manager, adding: “We will use multiple teaching aids to get the ideas of automation across – because now is the time to start buying automated systems.”

Both automation and Industry 4.0 will be central themes for suppliers of intralogistics, warehousing and supply chain solutions at the upcoming Materials Handling Middle East 2017 exhibition.

The biennial event will take place from 11-13 September 2017 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, and will host more than 130 local and international exhibitors and 250 brands.
