Al-Futtaim Motors has handed over 554 Toyota Camry hybrid electric vehicles to the Dubai Taxi Corporation (DTC), which is operated by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).
The order is the first of several that will be made before the end of 2017 as part of an expansion that will see DTC grow the number of hybrid electric vehicles in its fleet by 145%.
Saud Abbasi, the MD of Toyota at Al-Futtaim Motors, commented: “Our relationship with the DTC goes from strength to strength, as we support them with 100% of their electric hybrid demand and more than 85% of their petrol-engine fleet.”

He added that the 554 Camry hybrid electric vehicles entering DTC’s fleet would consume 33% less fuel than their conventional counterparts, and support the transport provider’s alignment with the sustainability goals of UAE Vision 2021.
Dr Yousef Al Ali, CEO of Dubai Taxi, commented: “This new fleet will play a vital role in supporting DTC’s vision of converting 50% of the Dubai Taxi fleet to hybrid by 2021.”

With the completion of the deal, Al-Futtaim Motors is on set to realise 44% increase in the market share of Toyota Camry hybrid electric vehicles across taxi companies in the UAE by the end of 2017, compared to vehicles already in service in 2016.
As part of the agreement, Al-Futtaim Motors will provide DTC with technical and aftersales support, in addition to providing training for DTC’s drivers and its technical and support staff.
