The estimations may have varied wildly as to Dubai’s total number of cranes, but one thing is for sure –this week the city saw the world’s strongest telescopic crane in operation on its maiden venture.
Standing 20m tall, the German-manufactured Liebherr LTM 11200-9.1 belonging to rental company Al Faris apparently stopped shoppers in their tracks at Deira City Centre mall as the crane carried out maintenance work at one of Dubai’s biggest malls.
Only eight of these cranes are planned to be built and this is the first one to be released in the world.
Dominic Pinto, Business Development manager at Al Faris said: “The crane was used here to lift chillers onto the roof of the mall. We have plenty more lifts for this new crane planned, too”.
Deira City Centre was the crane’s first lift as it assisted in completing the work in less than 30 hours in what would have otherwise taken an approximate 20 days.
The monster machine can lift up to 1,200 tonnes and cover an area over 100m wide. The operational weight is 96 tonnes and the total counterweight is 202 tonnes.
