Dynapac rollers are being used to smooth out the rough edges of Istanbul’s largest airport, Atatürk.

Contractor Eko Insaat is using four Dynapac smooth-drum vibratory rollers to upgrade the runway and taxiways at Atatürk International Airport.

Three of the Atlas subsidary’s CC422 single-drum compactors and one CC524HF double-drum compactor have been used as the first phase of the work, the runway and aprons, were completed.

They are currently waiting at a compound on the airport site to begin the second phase, comprising the taxiways, later this year.

The runways, taxiways and aprons have an 8cm thick base course, with two binder layers on top, each of 6cm thickness, and a wearing course of 4cm. Eight passes are being taken by the rollers to ensure 100% compaction of the wearing course.

The Dynapac machines, which are part of Eko’s huge plant fleet, were supplied by Dynapac’s distributor for Turkey, Teknomak Makina.
