Hankook unveils new tyre for 2023 Formula E World Championship

Sustainability, longevity, and recycling at the heart of new tyre technology, partnership sees Hankook take on role of technical partner from 2023 season

Hankook will be the new and official technical partner and tyre supplier of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.

The announcement came at a Swarovski Crystal studded glittering event in Austria where the newly developed was unveiled.

Dubbed the Hankook iON race, the new tyre was developed in close cooperation with the racing series and considers the approach to sustainability in Formula E and the future of e-mobility, without neglecting motorsport performance.

Roughly 30% of the new tyre, which is tailor-made for the third generation of Formula E car, is made from sustainable materials.

The teams currently have a variant of the tyre that can be used in both dry and wet conditions, to further save resources.

The iON Race is also said to have long durability. In addition, all tyres will be recycled following their use in a race weekend.

The first official use of the new Formula E race tyre, the Hankook iON race, will be in Valencia, Spain.

All the teams in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship will meet for a joint test in mid-December before the season gets underway in January.

Motorsport fans will get to see the Hankook tyre in race conditions for the first time at the Mexico City E-Prix on 14th January 2023. 40,000 spectators are expected in the grandstands for the first race with the new Gen3 cars.
