Saudi Arabia’s Royal Commission for AlUla (RCU) has awarded two major contracts, which includes the development of the Private Aircraft Terminal, otherwise known as a Fixed Based Operator or FBO, at its international airport, to French engineering consultancy Egis.
The latest undertaking marks a continuation of the productive partnership between RCU and Egis, which first came to fruition in the form of a cutting-edge airport hangar for private aircraft in November of last year.
Adhering to eco-friendly standards, this 3,000sqm facility boasts state-of-the-art equipment and highly trained ground flight and engineering crews. In addition, it also offers long-term parking services, further bolstering its appeal to discerning clients.
Egis’ scope of work
Egis’ current scope of work is divided into two components: expansion of the existing hangar, to provide the necessary storage, maintenance and operations space, and the development of a new purpose-built FBO Terminal building.
Egis will provide a comprehensive range of services, including a complete architectural design and engineering package for detailed design, airside design and airport operation support services, construction and turnover support services, infrastructure and landscaping design, airfield geometry and master planning, gradings, airfield lighting, markings, signage, and more.
AlUla International Airport, and its development, is a key element in RCU’s strategy to position AlUla as a premier global tourism destination for history, heritage, culture, and ecotourism.
The airport acts as a gateway to northwest Arabia, enhancing AlUla’s rapidly growing status as a modern and efficient logistical hub for the region and supporting the comprehensive regeneration of AlUla County as a whole.
Ongoing development work at AlUla’s International Airport is also firmly aligned with RCU’s strategic goal of boosting annual visitor numbers to more than two million people by 2035.
