Dubai South, the urban master developer, has announced that the Al Maktoum International Airport, is being projected to become the largest airport in the world upon completion.
The airport aims to create a multi-modal transport infrastructure connecting air, land, and sea, alongside a business-friendly free zone and diverse residential options.
Dubai started the expansion of Al Maktoum International Airport, its largest construction project, in 2010 for cargo operations, which later expanded to include passenger services in 2013.
The project is valued at AED 120 billion ($33 billion) and envisions becoming the world’s largest airport by 2050, capable of accommodating up to 255 million passengers annually.

Dubai International recorded 66.1 million passengers in 2022, and the city anticipates approximately 78 million passengers to use the airport this year, with a return to pre-pandemic levels expected in 2024.
Preparations are being made to resume the project, which includes a $2.7 billion substructure contract for Concourse 1 and the West Terminal building. This contract encompasses various facilities such as tunnels, baggage handling systems, road networks, and support facilities.
