Kaeser Kompressoren, which follows the philosophy of ‘more compressed air for less energy’, has been leading the way in the development of air compressors suited for Industry 4.0 (I 4.0) for a few years now. Kaeser’s Mobilair range of portable compressors provide flow rates ranging from 1.6m3/min for small compressors to 45.8 m3/min for large, oil-free models.
According to Carl Briden, managing director, Kaeser Kompressoren FZE, all Kaeser portable compressors can handle whatever application they are used for, without any modification required.
“The Kaeser portable screw compressor is robust and well designed to operate in extreme conditions found across the globe. As Kaeser portable screw compressors are based on a single stage screw design, there is of course a limit to the maximum pressure achievable; however, in this market sector, high pressures are required only in limited applications,” says Carl.

Considering the versatility of the Mobilair range, there are several factors to be considered while choosing compressors for construction and oil and gas project, Carl points out.
“Construction compressors are diesel driven portable machines designed for outdoor use and deliver compressed air to a standard suitable for rugged air tools and other applications where extremely high compressed air quality is not essential. As such, they are not suited to oil and gas applications. Kaeser offers custom-made compressor packages for oil and gas applications, which include electric driven compressors and downstream air treatment, all of which are generally mounted on base frames with inter-connecting pipework and control modules suited to communicate with clients’ central management systems,” he says.
Carl elaborates on Kaeser’s product development strategy, aimed at helping customers reduce operating costs.
“Our industrial range of machines together with correctly designed management systems already meet the demands of ‘I 4.0’. The energy saving Kaeser screw compressor further reduces the electricity consumed by factories, which in turn helps reduce their respective carbon footprint. For construction sectors in developed markets that have high emission standards, our portable compressors comply with all standards, entirely. In addition, via our smart control system, portable compressors can be remotely monitored wherever they may operate,” says Carl.
“For the industrial market, we help reduce operating costs by listening carefully to customer needs first and only then make a precise design best suited to their requirements. This approach ensures machines are sized correctly and are managed and perform at their most efficient point at any time during a production cycle. For the construction sector, we ensure low operating costs by design – allowing easy access to all components to reduce maintenance down times and longer machine life,” he adds.
