It’s time to go oil-free, says Atlas Copco

For over 60 years, Atlas Copco has pioneered many new developments in oil-free air technology and became the first manufacturer to be awarded the ISO 8573-1 CLASS 0 (2010) and ISO 22000 certifications. Oil-free compressed air has critical applications in several industries where the end product cannot be contaminated by oil, such as automotive, food and beverage, chemical, electronics, oil & gas, textiles and pharmaceuticals. Clean air generated from oil-free compressors also create less waste compared to oil-lubricated compressors. This results in reduced maintenance due to fewer filter replacements.

Akram Tamari, regional general manager, Atlas Copco Rental Middle East & India, explains the factors to be considered while choosing oil-free compressors and the incentives to opt for them.

“Customer requirements define the quality of compressed air required. In most applications, the use of oil-free air is necessary as the products and instrumentation are sensitive to oil contamination, such as in refining and production of petrochemicals, fertilizers, food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and utilities. We assess each requirement and give the best solution possible to help the customer achieve the best results.
There’s a strong incentive to switch to oil-free compressed air; for customers of oil-lubricated compressors, it would be the promise of better air quality that will keep their uptime to the maximum while being assured that the quality they are thriving for, is achieved, or exceeded. Using oil-free air will also reduce the risk of any oil contamination at any stage in the customer processes and reduce the cost of off-spec products,” says Akram.

Atlas Copco Rental Middle Eats & India offers the PT range of oil-free compressors in the Middle East. This range includes the medium-pressure PTS 800 and PTS 1600 diesel-driven models and the low-noise PTE 1500 electric-driven model.

“The PT range of compressors in our rental fleet can accommodate any requirement and we successfully completed many projects where huge amounts of air were required. This range has units that are powered with both diesel and electricity. Both models can work alone or in parallel with many other units to produce large amounts of 100% oil-free compressed air. Due to these characteristics, these compressors are highly popular in offshore oil and gas projects and onshore food and beverage production,” says Akram.

Akram points out how Altas Copco oil-free compressors help reduce operating costs: “Oil-free air compressors have zero oil contamination and that can help customers avoid any related costs of contaminated production or clean-up of their own air systems. We usually see that customers utilize our oil-free air to meet the specifications of the plant and project owners where no oil contamination is allowed. This can apply to most industries where quality, safety and efficiency are of high value.”
