North Korean leader Kim Jong Il has praised Huichon Ryonha General Machinery Plant for its adoption of CNC techonology.
During a visit to its newly built CNC-based (computer numerical control) assembling shop and CNC-based processing shop, Kim Jong Il praised the plant’s rapid introduction of automation technology.
He told the state media that the country had to push ahead with modernisation based on the latest science and technology in all sectors and at all units, and that operations like Huichon could “make a positive contribution to further consolidating the industrial foundation of the country”.
“Those strong in thinking and faith can acquire ultra modern technology stirring the era and they are true patriots and indomitable fighters who glorify the Juche [North Korea’s state idealogy of self-reliance) idea not in words but in practice,” said Kim Jung Il.
With the Kim Jong-Il regime widely condemned by the international community, trade with the republic is severely sanctioned, making the country reliant on its few trading partners for imports.
North Korea’s manufacturing sectors have undergone a restructuring in the past decade, as the manufacture and sale of machinery to certain markets, including bilateral partner China, could help ease the country’s growing debt.
