Caterpillar has revealed plans to lay off 200 full-time production workers.
The job losses are expected to begin on 19 January, and will take place at plants responsible for the production of mining equipment.
In addition to the 200 full-time staff members expected to leave Cat’s East Peoria, Illinois, and Decatur, Georgia state, plants, it’s believed the manufacturer will let go of 40 agency workers.
In a statement concerning the layoffs, Caterpillar said: “We know this is difficult for our employees and their families, and the company plans to offer impacted employees support services during this time.”
The cuts are necessary due to falling demand for mining equipment, according to the US manufacturer.
