Orascom Construction has expanded its fleet of Manitowoc cranes with the order of 24 Grove-branded rough-terrain units.

The order included 10 Grove RT650Es, six RT765E-2s, six RT890Es, and two RT9130E-2s.

The majority of the rough-terrain cranes have been dispatched to work at power plants and oil refineries.

Commenting on the deal, Mamdouh Fahmy, equipment director at Orascom Construction, said: “We work to tight schedules on many different projects so we needed the best cranes on the market.

“The main reason we selected these Grove rough-terrain cranes was because they are designed to handle the tough desert conditions found on job sites. [They] provide excellent manoeuvrability when working in combined spaces,” he added.

The 50-tonne capacity Grove RT650E has a four-section main boom that can extend to 32m; the RT765E-2 has a 60-tonne capacity with a 33.5m main boom; the RT890E can handle lifts of up to 80 tonnes; and the RT9130E-2 is one of the largest rough-terrain cranes on the market, with a maximum capacity of 120 tonnes and a 48.8m five-section telescoping main boom.

Orascom Construction’s sister company, Orascom Trading, is the Egyptian distributor for Manitowoc, Grove’s parent company.
