The W Motors Automotive Facility under construction in Dubai Silicon Oasis will serve as an integrated production, administration, retail and service facility for UAE-based high-performance and luxury car manufacturer W Motors when it opens its doors in 2022. W Motors will shift the production of all its vehicles to this 120,000-sqft facility, including that of the limited series Fenyr SuperSport, upcoming new vehicles, electric and autonomous models, as well as all vehicles under the company’s special projects division. The construction of the factory and office building was contracted to Al Masaood National General Contracting in 2020.
Johnson Arabia was contracted for installation of precast hollow slabs for the showroom building. The job site presented accessibility and space restrictions for crane operations. Access to the site was limited for the low-bed trailer transporting the crawler crane. Furthermore, the site was congested and the soil was loose for the crawler crane assembly and operation.
For the site preparation, the entrance was widened and compacted to enable entry of the low-bed trailer. The site was then cleared for the crane assembly, and the ground was compacted for the crane movement and operation.
Johnson Arabia selected two cranes for the job – a 140t Terex AC140 all-terrain crane and a 250t Kobelco CKE2500 crawler crane.
The Terex all-terrain crane was used for one week at the factory area of the showroom for the slab installations. The Kobelco crawler crane was operated for one month at the office area of the showroom with a 24m main boom and 48m luffing jib. Due to the limited space and time period, the crawler crane was the only option for this lift operation.
