Sany claims world record with 4,500-t crawler crane

Sany claims to have achieved the largest lifting capacity on a mobile crane. The Sany SCC98000TM crawler crane exceeds 98,000 tons/m, and the maximum lifting weight is 4,500 tons, which is equivalent to lifting more than 3,000 cars at a time.

The main engine of the crane has four tracks and eight drives, the arms are open and the length is 216 meters. In addition to the over-lifting mast, counterweight, and hooks, it covers an area of nearly 4,200 square meters, which is about the size of 10 basketball courts. The machine also has 56 spreader combinations, multiple boom modes, and the super lift radius is adjustable from 28m to 37m.

According to Qin Xuqi, director of the Sany Crawler Crane Research Institute, at least 200 trucks with a load of 30 tons are required to transport this behemoth.

Based on a modular design and finite element simulation technology, the SCC98000TM and Sany’s other large-tonnage cranes have a commonality of parts as high as 95%. According to actual needs, only a few parts need to be replaced. The SCC98000TM can be disassembled into an independent 2000-ton crawler crane to complete complex tasks in a joint operation.

“We have pioneered an independent power super-lifting counterweight system, a digital slewing drive system and an integrated control system. The whole machine starts and stops smoothly, and the control accuracy can reach ‘millimeter level’, says Qin Xuqi.
