Larsen & Toubro wins contract for building Varanasi international cricket stadium

Venue to seat 30,000 spectators with scope of work for Larsen & Toubro to include practice, hospitality and flood light facilities

Larsen & Toubro has already built the world's largest cricket stadium - the Motera Stadium Ahmedabad, India.

India’s construction giant Larsen & Toubro (L&T) will construct a 30,000 seater cricket stadium in the city of Varanasi after its Buildings and Factories (B&F) business arm secured the contract for the project from the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA).

The stadium will be the first international sports facility of its kind in the city of Varanasi in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh, joining the state’s two other international cricket stadiums – Green Park in Kanpur and Atal Bihari Vajpayee stadium in the state capital Lucknow.

The stadium, to be built on a design and build turnkey basis, will be on a plot of 30.67 acres and will have a seating capacity of 30,000 spectators. The scope of work for L&T includes the main ground as per International Cricket Council (ICC) standards, display score board, flood lights, corporate boxes, VIP lounges, offices, broadcasting and press areas, kitchen and dining areas and a practice ground.

Construction of the stadium is due to start this year with completion expected by the end of 2024. L&T already has the record earlier for building the world’s largest cricket stadium, the Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad city in India’s Gujarat state.
